A former Jones Senior High School teacher pleaded no contest Tuesday to charges of having sex with one of her students.

A former Jones Senior High School teacher pleaded no contest Tuesday to charges of having sex with one of her students.

The next step for Shebana Rajput is a sentencing hearing on September 28. The no contest plea means she's not admitting guilt, but doesn't disputing the charges.

The 35-year-old was arrested in Lenoir County in 2008.

Investigators say she was involved in sexual activity with a 17-year-old at least 9 times at her Lenoir County home.

According to the school, Rajput quit her job as a biology and physical science teacher in May, 2008, just before she was arrested.
