Hanalei Bay, HI - A surfer in Hawaii is lucky to be alive, after a shark took a bite out of his board.
Jim Rawlinson was enjoying the waves in Hanalei Bay Monday, when he felt something grab the back of his board.
The next thing he knew, he was on the back of a shark holding on to the fin.
"All of a sudden, I felt this hit and it kind of lifted up in the air a little bit and I slid off my board,” said Rawlinson. “And while I was on his back, he kept moving so I slid off his back and undid my cord to swim away. And then the next thing you know, he was gone."
A marine biologist believes it was a 14-foot tiger shark.
He says the shark probably thought it was chomping down on a sea turtle.
