RALEIGH, N.C. - The North Carolina Department of Reveune says a Morehead City businessman pleaded guilty Wednesday to tax charges.
55 year old Raymond Lawrence, Jr. pleaded guilty to two county of willful failure to pay sales tax.
Lawrence was sentenced to two consecutive 45-day jail terms and ordered to pay restitution of $28,000 and a $5,000 fine.
He's scheduled to report to the Carteret County Jail on August 2nd to begin serving his sentence.
Officials say he collected state and county sales tax that he failed to remit to the Department of Revenue from Jan. 1, 2004 - December 31, 2005.
