WILSON, N.C. - There are still lots of questions tonight after a shootout with police left that one person dead and another in the hospital.
It happened in Wilson this morning and it ended at the intersection of Ward Boulevard and Forest Hill Road.
The whole thing started at a house just a few miles away.
"I came out and seen he had her in the chock hold and he was shooting down. He shot maybe three, four times and she was just hollering for her life. It's just a sad story," said a resident who asked to remain anonymous.
A graphic descriptions of what neighbors in the 600 block of White Head Avenue say happened during the morning shooting in Wilson.
They requested that we not give their names.
"They were trying to get in the car and he shot her again, just kept shooting at her and shooting at her. I think he was shooting her in the leg or something," said another resident.
They drove to the intersection of Ward Blvd and Forest Hills Road where police intercepted them; but back on White Head Avenue, in an area just blocks away from Barton College, Antonio Britt has been living there for almost 10 years and says he questions the security of his neighborhood.
"It's a little bit difficult to think about and, on a level of adulthood, you wonder if it's really safe to have your children around,” said Britt.
Britt says he's beginning to see a trend.
"It gets a little scary because, at the beginning of school, stuff like this happens and I'm aware of it and it's happening," said Britt.
What happened at the 600 block of White Head Avenue is still under investigation by the SBI, and Britt just hopes it doesn't bring retaliation to his community.
One victim died at the scene, another was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital.
Wilson Police have not released the names of either victim.
