RALEIGH, N.C. - Some new and amazing pictures taken miles high in the sky all from a homemade balloon created here in the state.
The Techshop team out of Raleigh created a balloon to take pictures of the earth's horizon. The balloon launched out of Raleigh Sunday and soared to an estimated 80,000 feet. The balloon sent back photos of earth before landing in a tree in Rocky Mount.
The launch was part of a national ballooning contest that challenges teams to build and send a homemade balloon into near space.
The team's first attempt wasn't as successful….soaring around 20,000 feet in the sky before disappearing.
