Raleigh, NC – The NC Supreme Court ruled today prisoners sentenced more than 30 years ago should not qualify for “good behavior” credits that could allow them to go free.
The ruling came in the cases of convicted killers Alford Jones and Faye Brown. Under a 1970’s law, the life sentence was defined as “only 80 years long.” The inmates argued their good behavior credits shortened their sentences.
Justice Robert H. Edumunds, Jr. wrote in the opinion that there was a rational basis to deny sentence reduction to those convicted of first-degree murder.
