GREENSBORO, N.C. - It's a special landmark in the fight for civil rights and now a museum holding the history is open.
Today marks the 50th anniversary of the sit-in at Woolworth's in Greensboro and today is also the grand opening of the International Civil Rights Center and museum there.
It sits on the site of the old Woolworth's. Four North Carolina A&T students sat at the store counter in 1960, but were never served.
Thousands of people came out to the opening this morning, saying braving the cold was worth witnessing history.
The original lunch counter is featured in the exhibit.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday.
