CHERRYVILLE, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a man was run down by a car in his front yard after coming outside to investigate gunshots from men who had been shooting deer at night.
The Gaston Gazette reported that 31-year-old Ricky Marlow Woodall Jr. died Monday afternoon after being hit by the car east of Cherryville late Saturday.
William Adam Payseur has been charged with felony hit and run and driving while impaired. The 39-year-old was being held Tuesday in Gaston County Jail under a $100,000 bond. A jail spokesman said no defense attorney was listed.
Highway Patrol Sgt. J.A. Brodhage says Payseur and three others told wildlife officers they had been shooting at deer from a car. The trooper says Payseur lost control of the car and it struck Woodall.
