A young man is facing serious charges after shooting a close friend of his back in November.
21 year old Chad Mayes is facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with inflicting serious injury.
Onslow County deputies arrested Mayes yesterday.
Deputies say back in November a group of friends were hanging out and Mayes pulled out an AR-15 style rifle as a joke thinking he would fire a blank round.
But the gun was loaded and he shot his friend in the stomach.
Mayes is now in the Onlsow County Detention Center under a 25 thousand dollar bond.
