To say Steve McGranahan is strong would be an understatement. You name it - he's bent, broke, or tore it; but, there's a reason behind all this brute force: a positive message of encouragement.
"Well what I do is, basically, I take household objects and I destroy them with a life lesson behind them, we don't want the kids to quit school in the 10th grade, or let Jack come into there lives and influence them with drugs and alcohol because Jack wants to come into their life - and rip everything you have apart," said McGranahan.
The "World’s Strongest Redneck," Steve McGranahan has been featured on popular shows like "Country Fried Home Videos" and even "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.
Laura Gerard, part of the school's PTA says through team work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization at PS Jones Middle School, they were able to bring McGranahan and his message to the east.
"Well I mean, just from the show he did previously, he is fun and funny and just does the craziest things like bending nails and wrenches, but has a way to really relate to he kids and catches their attention the entire time," said Gerard.
At 6ft, 333lb, McGranahan has no problem getting your attention, but it's not his feats of strength that keep you listening - it's his message.
"To encourage people to use what you got, you don't have some of the strongest hands in the world, but you can use your gifts," he said.
McGranahan started the Heaven Bent Ministry back in 1999 to encourage those to use their gifts. He will be at the First United Methodist Church in Washington at 7:00pm this Saturday night.
