WASHINGTON (AP) - A member of the House Republican leadership is calling President Barack Obama's new health care overhaul proposal a warmed-over version of Senate legislation the American people already have rejected.
House Republican Whip Eric Cantor made the assertion Tuesday morning in an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America." The Virginia GOP lawmaker said the Obama proposal is a "repackaged" version of repudiated legislation.
Cantor said, "The American people do not like the Senate health care bill," and suggested that Obama will be able to rely only on Democrats to push the bill through to final congressional passage.
He called it a "nonstarter" and said the health care summit Obama has scheduled later this week likely won't be productive.
