JUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison has acknowledged Republican Gov. Rick Perry has succeeded at casting her as a Washington insider, hindering her effort to kick him out of the Texas governor's mansion.
Hutchison is trailing in the polls with less than a week before the Republican primary on March 2. She said in an interview on her campaign bus Tuesday that Perry "definitely has made it more difficult for me."
Hutchison says she's been an effective senator for Texas but that Perry has tried to paint that success as a negative.
Hutchison is campaigning in a town in north Texas that makes cowboy boots. She says she's always voted with Texas values and is working hard to turn out grass-roots supporters to force Perry into a runoff election.
