RALEIGH - Health officials say Norovirus continues to spread through North Carolina.

It's a stomach bug that usually lasts one to two days, and it's very contagious.

Recently, 150 students at a conference at the Raleigh Convention Center came down with nausea and diarrhea from the virus. A retirement community in Durham is under quarantine because 170 residents and 70 staffers became sick.

Doctors say the alcohol-based gel sanitizers are not effective against Norovirus. You must wash your hands with soap and water frequently to keep from spreading it.

Health officials say if you feel sick, stay home. Don’t prepare food until 48 hours after feeling better. And you should also clean surfaces of your home with a bleach solution.
