It's an all day fun event meant to highlight the science and arts.
The Northeast Regional Science and Engineering Fair was held at East Carolina University. Students from grades 3-12 got a chance to show off their year-long science projects ranging from a homemade submarine to using laundry lint as a common home insulation.
There was also art exhibits, planetarium presentations, tours around ECU, and even a magic show. Sharon Schleigh, Director of the event, says it's all about getting involved.
"Our goal was to get more people involved in science and to see that there is science in an everyday event and to show that there is an art to science, as well as science in the arts, and so that's our theme for our event this year," said Schleigh.
The students in attendance represented 15 counties in the east. A panel of judges reviewed each student's science project and the public was allowed to vote on the art projects.
Winners will go on to the state competition.
