- Dress in layers. Three or four layers are ideal when you need to be outside when wind chills are less than 25. Be most mindful of cold-sensitive groups like the very young, the very old, and the chronically ill.
- Remember pets. Pets, even those accustomed to outdoor living, are safer in shelter in the coldest winter weather. Also, with the forecast including sub-freezing temperatures for most of the time, outdoor water bowls for pets that freeze at night may fail to thaw in the following day. Make sure your pets have access to adequate liquid!
- Condition your skin. Cold, arctic air is very dry by nature, but the air further dries when your home heating unit warms it. Your home will no doubt feature desert-like humidity levels and your skin / lips may suffer for it. If you're prone to dry skin, proactively treat your skin with moisturizer and your lips with balm. Also, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated through the cold snap.
