FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) - The Philippines will recognize the efforts of a group of North Carolina-based civil affairs soldiers in a formal ceremony.
Brig. Gen. Antonio Supnet, defense and military attache of the Embassy of the Philippines will present awards Thursday to 16 soldiers from the 97th Civil Affairs Battalion, based at Fort Bragg.
The soldiers completed almost 50 infrastructure projects in the Philippines last year. The new schools, government buildings, roads and water wells were built during the soldiers' nine-month tour to the Pacific archipelago. The soldiers also conducted almost 70 medical and dental clinics that provided care to thousands of Filipinos.
