With the cold snap that’s gripping the East coast and Midwest, it's hard not to catch a cold. But what you eat could keep you healthy.
Nutritionists say Vitamin C helps your body fight infection. So pick up some citrus fruits, strawberries, and dark leafy vegetables at the grocery store.
Also, throw some blueberries, honey, and green tea in your cart. They can help fight free radicals, which are cells that damage health tissue.
“Free radicals are what I call the bad guys, roaming through your bloodstream, waiting to be linked to cancer, heart disease, aging and also a lowered immune systems,” said Keri Glassman, a nutritionist.
Some herbs and spices can help boost your immune system, too. And if you've already got a cold pick up some mushrooms and garlic at the store. They can act as decongestants.
