Piece of History Given Back to Kinston

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Today the first battlefield of Kinston Park grew by six acres, with the donation of land that once housed a tobacco sales warehouse. The Knox Tobacco Warehouse stood for years at the corner of Queen Street at US-70 next to the Neuse River. It was torn down several years ago after suffering damage from numerous floods. But, not before owner Billy Brewer learned the history his business stood atop. Today, he donated the land to the battlefield park. It is located diagonally across from the Visitor’s Center and will give the park access to the river itself.

To hear Brewer’s explanation of why he donated the land, just type in the keyword: BATTLEFIELD or click here.
