It was a day to remember a giant as the country paused to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The civil rights leader would have celebrated his 81st birthday on Friday.
People across the east took time to remember him.
One of those events today is just getting started on campus at ECU.
This is the day the country set aside to remember the dream and to relive the dream Martin Luther King Jr. shared with the world in August of 1963.
That's certainly the idea behind what's happening on College Hill.
Students organized a candlelight vigil tonight. They will march from College Hill to Hendrix Theater.
The tribute continues once inside where Greenville Mayor Pat Dunn will speak.
There will also be performances by the ECU Gospel Choir as well as the black Student Union Ensemble Group.
Organizers say it's just one way to remember the man who gave his life in the fight for freedom.
In King's famous I Have A Dream speech now almost 47 years ago, he said 1963 is not an end, but a beginning in the fight for equality.
People here admit there's been progress, but there's still more to be done.
The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity organized the campus tribute and we'll have more of it for you tonight on the Nightside.
