KINSTON, N.C. - The recovery from Hurricane Floyd ten years ago is paying dividends today, for the people of Haiti.
Goldsboro's MERCI Center was started by the Methodist Church to help people recover from Floyd.
Today it's sending supplies to Haiti, with an assist from an area hospital.
Registered nurse Mary Joe Nimmo knew when she heard at church what the needs were in haiti that they couldn't be filled at the corner store.
She works at Lenoir Memorial Hospital where she organized the collections of more then 200 thousand dollars in medical supplies.
Everything from from plaster for setting broken bones to gloves and intravenous fluids.
"We sent supplies directly from the hospital as if we were sending them directly to the floor. So we knew these supplies were in good shape, that these were unused supplies from our hospital. We kept enough obviously on site to take care of our own patients but anything we could get," said Mary Jo Nimmo, Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
A total of five shipping palets were filled with suppies that are now in Haiti.
