SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Google is having serious trouble getting traction on its effort to secure the digital rights to millions of books. The latest obstacle to the quest comes from critics who have filed a new objection with a federal court in New York. The critics contend claim Google's bid to settle a class action suit with U.S. publishers and authors for $125 million will short-circuit competition in the e-book market. For its part, Google argues the agreement will benefit society by making it easier to see and potentially buy hard-to-find books that have only been available in print in a handful of libraries.
