KINSTON, N.C. -- Spirit AeroSystems officially opened its doors this afternoon, in a move some in the east hope will open the door to a brighter economic future as well. With the possibility of 1,000 new high paying jobs over the next five years...it certainly looks promising...but so have other projects at the Global Transpark center. It took three years, blood, sweat and tears...but now Lenoir County Officials say there is reason to cheer.
Mark Pope is the Lenoir County Economic Development Director, he says North Carolina's business market is changing. Spirit is just one example of a growing diversity of business headed to the area. Governor Bev Perdue says North Carolina is lucky to have gotten them here.
The Global Transpark or GTP hasn't had the best track record, with other businesses trying to succeed here and failing. And with mounting debt some think Spirit is its one last chance to succeed. Spirited talk... in hopes this venture pays off.
