      RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Gov. Beverly Perdue says she's poised to sign the new North Carolina state budget into law the day before the new fiscal year begins.

     GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Pitt County Coalition for Educating Black Children will host a community forum on Tuesday night.

     The coalition is partnering with the Kirwan Institute and the Center for Civil Rights to lead the discussion.

     The event will focus on the role diversity plays in schools and neighborhoods.

     Members of the Kirwan Institute will be there for the discussion which is from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Baptist Church on Allen Road in Greenville.
