FALKLAND, N.C. - Deputies are still investigating a Falkland murder scene that happened yesterday.

They have a murder warrant out for Jose Ramos-Diaz.  He also goes by the names: Carlos Moreno and “Rambo” and he could still be in the Pitt County area.

"It use to not happen around here, but things are not like they were 60 years ago," said Herbert Dail, Falkland Resident.

Residents of Falkland say it's a sign of changing times.

"We've got to take the change and when you take the change you take the good and the bad," said Dail.

The bad - a recent murder that happened less than a mile from Herbert and Patrcia Dail's home.

Deputies say Jose Ramos-Diaz shot and killed Freddie Landero around 1 am Sunday morning.

People who live at the home say neither of the men lived there, and that they were in the area working.

Employee's of the Falkland Mini Mart didn't want to go on camera but say they saw both the victim and the suspect buying beer only two hours before.

Stanley Jenkins worked with both of men.

"Probably was playing or said something he didn't like and he probably just pulled a gun out just figured he's just going to shoot him and wound him or probably didn't mean to pull the trigger... but he shot him," said Jenkins.

Chief James Tripp says Falkland residents need not to worry.

"The suspect has left the area so there's no danger of him being in the area but we are still looking for him actively," said Chief Tripp.

The people who live at the home here in Falkland say they're honest people just trying to make a living.

People who live at the home say they suspect Ramos-Diaz is making his way to Florida where they say he has family.

If you have any information as to his whereabouts, be sure to contact the Pitt County Sheriff's Office at (252) 830-4141.
