Falkland, NC - We've all experienced a flat tire one time or another---especially during the most traveled months of the year---the summer. But would “you” receive assistance from a complete stranger appearing to offer help?
It's a question one local woman will think twice about and the Pitt County Sheriff's Office is urging all stranded drivers to “reconsider”.
Sarah Saunder's never made it to work Tuesday afternoon. She now has the scars to prove it.
According to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office, the 26-year-old was traveling on Highway 222 East near Falkland, when she realized one of her tire's was terribly low. What she though was help, was right around the corner.
"I noticed a white truck had pulled up behind me,” Saunder’s said. “I thought it was somebody offering help."
Problem is, it wasn't the assistance she was expecting. And the man apparently just wanted the money inside her purse. The man eventually fled, leaving Saunder's with a black eye after striking her with what appeared to be a firearm once he realized their was no money inside.
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the robbery and assault. 9OYS is told, the time and place of the incident are just bizarre as the altercation.
So what should you do if you find yourself in Sarah Saunder's position? If you get a flat tire and you're not equipped to change it, turn on the A/C and lock your doors. Then call for immediate assistance.
As a last resort, call for law enforcement to assist. Some agencies like the Pitt County Sheriff's Office actually change flat tires.
Authorities are looking for a man in 30’s with dirty blond hair. He's described as being approximately 5’8’’ inches in height. Traveling in a white pick-up truck.
Call the Pitt County Sheriff's Office at (252) 902-2800 if you have any information.
