TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. - A 13-year old girl is still recovering after a shark attack at Topsail Beach Friday.
"And I felt like something grabbed my foot then it got really sharp and it wasn't letting go so I pulled away and by then they had already bitten me twice and then I pulled it out to see what it was and it was actually really bad," said Carley Schlentz.
She was treated at Cape Fear Hospital.
It took more than 60 stitches to close the wound. Doctors say additional reconstructive surgery might be needed sometime early next year.
Carley says she wasn't scared after first until she pulled her foot out of the water and saw how big the bite was.
She talked with the CBS Early Show Tuesday morning about the experience.
The Early Show also spoke with shark expert Andy Dehart, of the National Aquarium, who talked about the behavioral reasons behind attacks like this one.
