ANSONIA, Conn. (AP) - A Marine private from Connecticut has died at a North Carolina air base in what military officials say was a "non-combat" death.
A spokesman for the Marines says Ansonia native Timothy Koundry Jr. died Sunday at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, N.C. His family says in an obituary in the Connecticut Post that he was 22.
Air station spokesman Mike Barton said Thursday that the Marines are withholding the cause of death pending an investigation. The military defines a non-combat death as being by accident, homicide, negligence, illness or suicide.
Barton said Koundry handled aircraft ordnance and had never served overseas.
The funeral will be private. Calling hours are set for Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home in Ansonia.
