The Eastern Regional Basketball Tournament is in full swing. High school athletes and their families from all over the east have descended on Greenville. The Keith-LeClair Classic kicked off today as well, bringing more people in and though many people are hyped up for their team, businesses of all kinds are rooting for "Team Greenville."
"Our guests are constantly asking us where they should go eat and what there is to do in Greenville. So they are definitely out and about, seeing the community and enjoying Greenville while they are here," said Jennifer Haskell, manager at Hampton Inn.
Sports facilities aren't the only ones benefiting from tournaments like the Eastern Regional. In Greenville, restaurants and even hotels like the Hampton Inn are reporting an increase in business and, in this economy that is always good news.
"Whenever ECU has a basketball game or a baseball game we definitely see traffic, but this particular weekend I think it's definitely because of the high school tournaments that are going on that we are seeing this increase in traffic," said Haskell.
Haskell says the Hampton Inn has had lots of reservations, but the walk-in crowd has been even higher.
After the game its time to eat and restaurants say hungry fans are filling the tables.
So when you cheer for your team, business owners watch the cash register and cheer for the home team.
The basketball tournament is being held at both Rose high school and Minges and will continue till Saturday.
ECU baseball tournaments are held at Clark-LeClair stadium.
