These marines went into Haiti with one mission, help anyone who needs it.
Capitan Clark Carpenter led the charge for the 22nd MEU in Haiti and he knows that marines are perfect for this type of mission.
“We were well suited for the mission because of our amphibious capability, we could launch from the sea, from the air, and also via service craft.,” Clark said. “We can bring in tons of those supplies via those two means. We can then go back to the ships at night so we weren’t putting a strain on the infrastructure there. “
With an infrastructure as badly broken as Haiti’s after the quake he says this was vital to their mission’s success.
After their initial round of help their focus turned to implementing measures for long lasting aid.
They helped to pair non governmental relief agencies with people on the ground who needed them.
Capitan Clark said these Marines made a huge difference on the ground.
