GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Republican National Committee Michael Steele says the GOP is running ads in local television markets like one in North Carolina to "take out the filter of the national media" in communicating with the public and raising money.
Steele visited Greensboro on Monday as part of a multicity tour this week to talk up a new television commercial that's running on cable. He told about 100 attending a news conference that elections "aren't won in Washington" but instead in local communities.
Greensboro is one of five markets getting the 60-second ads. The ads also will air in Cincinnati, Tulsa, Okla., Oklahoma City and West Palm Beach, Fla. The GOP considers them favorable markets but Steele told reporters they also hope to win over Democrats and unaffiliated voters.
