There are still a lot of questions this afternoon about the brutal attack of a local member of the State Board of Education.

Police say someone assaulted Kathy Taft inside a home in Raleigh over the weekend.

She's been at Wake Med hospital since Saturday morning.

Taft lives in Greenville.

Raleigh police say her injuries are serious.

She's in intensive care at Wake-Med.

Police spent much of the weekend combing the neighborhood for clues about what happened.

Neighbors say Taft was staying at her boyfriend's home.

They say he was out of town.

Police are hoping to get a tip from someone through the CrimeStoppers hotline.
