RALEIGH, N.C. - Yellow crime scene tape and Raleigh Police cars still surround a house on Cartier Drive for a fifth day as they investigate the attack here that led to Kathy Taft's death.
Raleigh Police are also looking into an attempted burglary at a home on Wayland Drive just one street away. They're trying to determine whether the cases are related.
Allison Dickens lives on Wayland.
I'm a little bit concerned for the safety, but it's been a safe neighborhood for eleven years that I know of,” said Dickens.
More than anything, neighbors say people here are concerned for Taft's grieving family...especially her four children.
“We are upset that this happened to the lady, that such a terrible thing could happen,” she said.
Thomas Dameron lives just a few doors down from where the attempted burglary occurred... He's not convinced it's connected to Taft's assault, “It's definitely possible, but really without knowing anymore than we do, it's hard to draw any conclusions.”
Neighbors are being more cautious, however, they asked to have a street light that wasn't working on Cartier Drive replaced.
Meanwhile, with the 911 tape and search warrants now sealed by a judge, it looks like it may be awhile before details of the case are released.
“I understand that the police need to keep their notes tight and they'll share with us what they can,” said Damerson.
