»  Comments | Post a Comment

GREENVILLE, N.C. - A former sheriff in the east is the center of a federal indictment.

Federal prosecutors say Ralph Thomas, the former Carteret County Sheriff, took part in illegal activities and conduct during his time in office.

The indictment says Thomas conspired to steal property from the Carteret County Sheriff's Office.

Officials say he worked with others and took more than five thousand dollars worth of property.

The indictment also says he misappropriated funds designated for drug investigations for his own personal use.

Thomas was sheriff of Carteret County from 1986 to 2006.
