BAGHDAD (AP) - Officials say Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has undergone surgery but already has been released from the hospital and is in good health.
A statement from al-Maliki's office says the surgery took place Wednesday at Medical City, the largest hospital in Iraq.
It says al-Maliki has been released from the hospital, is in good health and has resumed his duties. The statements gives no details about the surgery or how long al-Maliki was hospitalized.
An adviser, Yassin Majid, told The Associated Press Thursday that the surgery was "simple" but refused to elaborate.
The Shiite leader is hoping to keep his job after March 7 parliamentary elections. Iraqi and U.N. officials have said initial results will likely be released on Thursday.
