GREENVILLE - Rep. Walter Jones (R – North Carolina) wants to change the way military members are counted in this year's census.
He and nine other members of the House Armed Services Committee sent a letter to President Obama, urging him to change the way deployed troops are counted. Jones says they should be counted in the community of their most recent base assignment in the U.S.
Right now, most troops overseas are counted for their home state. Jones says if the rules aren't changed, Onslow County could lose 10,000 people in its census count.
