Investigators suspect the man already facing murder charges in the death of a Rocky Mount woman, may also be involved in the deaths of others. That's according to a search warrant issued after the remains of another woman were found in Halifax County. She was from Rocky Mount as well, and went missing more than three years ago. Now officials say Antwan Pittman, who they arrested last year, may be responsible in that case too.
Nearly two weeks ago, Halifax County Deputies stumbled onto Christine Boone’s remains at a home that used to belong to Antwan Pittman. Boone went missing from Rocky Mount back in January of 2007. The warrant filed in Halifax County, says there is reason to believe Pittman may also be responsible for the deaths of four other Rocky Mount women: Jackie Thorpe, Ernestine Battle, Jarniece Hargrove and Taraha Nicholson. Pittman already faces murder charges in Nicholson’s death, her remains were found a year ago. The three other Rocky Mount women were found in woods off Seven Bridges Road. The warrant says Pittman grew up in that area and even worked on a farm near there. Those four women are from a group of six women killed in Edgecombe County over a four-year period. Law enforcement put together a special task force last year to investigate the deaths. Friends and family of the missing women also launched their own campaign to find their loved one's killers; it is called MOMS. There is still a $20,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in the cases.
As for the most recent find, it will be a few weeks before DNA tests confirm Christine Boone died in the Halifax County mobile home where Pittman used to live. Again, as of right now, Pittman has only been charged with Nicholson’s death.
