It's been a project nearly three years in the making and now a replacement bridge in the east is ready for drivers.
The Alfred Cunningham Bridge in New Bern is set to open to traffic sometime Friday afternoon.
Once a major thoroughfare into downtown, the bridge shut down in 2007 for work on a replacement.
Crews will continue to test the bridge to make sure everything is in place for the opening.
An official ceremony for the bridge is set for Monday morning.
