Greenville, NC- G.R. Whitfield School will hold Wear Jeans to School Day on Saturday, Nov. 13th to raise money for a student fighting cancer.
G.R. Whitfield will hold the event to help out seventh grade student, Elizabeth Donato, who found out she had cancer last week. Students will be allowed to wear jeans to school, by donating $2.00 to the cause. All money raised will go to Donato and her family.
“We are hoping to help the family, and show and offer our continued support,” event coordinator and school counselor, Shannon Wynne said. All students and staff will be participating.
The school was planning on having Wear Jeans to School Day prior to the news of Donato’s illness, due to it being the Saturday make-up day that students have to attend.
The money was going to be donated to a cause, but once the school found out about Donato’s situation, Wynne said they couldn’t think of a better cause.
The school plans on holding more fundraising events for Donato in the future. The school will be putting together a cookbook, filled with recipes from families at the school, to have on sale throughout the year.
