Gov. Perdue declares state of emergency

RALEIGH  Gov. Bev Perdue today issued Executive Order No. 62 to declare a State of Emergency for North Carolina in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Earl. 

The order calls for all state and local government agencies to cooperate in the implementation of provisions of the North Carolina Emergency Operations Plan. The order also delegates authority to Crime Control and Public Safety Secretary Reuben Young to take “actions necessary to promote and secure the safety and protection of the populace in North Carolina.”ovisions of the North Carolina es Emergency Operations Centerthe Administrtaion Building, 116 W. The N.C. Division of Emergency Management is working with local emergency managers to respond to the potential effects of Hurricane Earl. Ferry Services is running extra routes from Ocracoke Island for evacuations. All other ferry service is on normal operations. An emergency shelter is open in Pitt County at North Pitt High School in Bethel.
