HAVELOCK, N.C. (AP) - Officials say power has been restored to most of the coastal towns affected by winds and rain from Hurricane Earl.
About 5,000 electric customers in Hyde County had awakened without power Friday morning. North Carolina Electric Cooperatives spokeswoman Kristie Aldridge says most had it back by the afternoon.
Aldridge also says power was restored to Dare County residents who lost electricity during the storm.
A Progress Energy spokeswoman said work crews have restored power to 3,500 customers in New Bern, Morehead City and Jacksonville.
