NEW BERN, N.C. – People had a busy day preparing for Earl in Craven County.
Winds have picked up throughout the day.
Emergency services are urging residents that if they haven't prepared for Hurricane Earl, now is the time. Winds could strengthen overnight becoming storm force winds.
If they reach 50 miles per hour, Craven County Emergency Services will shut down their response operations.
This is important for folks in low lying areas along the Neuse River, especially the Harlowe and Adam's Creek areas. People living there could see some minimal flooding, anywhere from one to five feet of water.
Tie down whatever loose objects there may be lying around outside. Winds will only get stronger overnight and you want to reduce the risk of storm damage.
The people at the Bridgeport Marina in New Bern, several of them who live there on their boats, say they are not going anywhere.
