NC dog-fighting 'legend' sentenced

RALEIGH, N.C. - The man known across the country as a legend in dog fighting will spend years behind bars.

Today a federal judged sentenced 78-year-old Harry Hargrove of Duplin County to 5 years in jail, followed by three years supervised release.

Hargrove pleaded guilty to a host of dog fighting charges after his arrest last April.

Investigators charged him with 59 counts of felony animal cruelty and dog fighting.

Hargrove admitted that he had been fighting dogs for 40 years.

Authorities recovered more than 30 dogs. All of them had to be put to sleep.
