Halifax- County residents are advised that Wal-Mart, several gas stations and restaurants are open in the city of Roanoke Rapids. Several places in the town of Littleton now have power. The town of Hobgood has power. The power in the Town of Scotland Neck is 50 percent restored. The Town of Enfield has no power. Halifax Electric Membership Corporation hopes to restore power to their 2,200 customers now without, by the end of today or by noon tomorrow. Progress Energy reports that they will not be able to restore power to their customers until 5;00 PM Wednesday. Sections of Interstate 95 may be shut down today as crews repair power lines.
FEMA assistance information may be obtained by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by using the web address: www.disasterassistance.gov. Those residents who are blind, deaf or hard of hearing may obtain assistance from the American Red Cross by calling either 1-800-999-6828, 252-230-5621 or 252-373-0911.
FEMA and Halifax County damage assessment teams will be doing drive by assessments, but they will not have applications with them.
