HYDE COUNTY, N.C. - A Beaufort County man is facing several charges after killing more than a dozen swans. Steven Price of Pamlico Beach is accused of killing 14 Tundra Swans in Hyde County. Price was issued a permit to only kill one this season.
Wildlife authorities say he's charged with exceeding the seasonal bag limit of migratory waterfowl by 13, failure to tag migratory waterfowl at site of kill, and possession of unlawfully taken game. If convicted, Price will be facing a replacement cost of more than $1,000 per bird killed over the limit of one.
Hyde County is known to have the largest population of Tundra Swans in the country.
