KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) - If you can't make it out to time square this year, there are plenty of celebrations going at a city near you.
Why drop a ball, when you can drop...a pickle!
“If you live in Mt. Olive and you're going to drop something on New Years Eve, its going to be a pickle,” said Lynn Williams, spokeswoman for Mt. Olive.
For the 13th year Mt. Olive will drop their giant lighted pickle down the flag pole into a brine barrel.
It all starts at six and you can enjoy free hot chocolate, cookies, and of course...pickles.
Over in Kinston, Parks and Recreation have been working on their own special project.
"We just thought a plane would be a good idea for the growing aerospace industry here in Kinston,” said program supervisor Jenny Inabinet.
It’s a replica of the Airbus planes made at Spirit Aerosystems in Kinston and will make a special landing via zip line at midnight.
"We started from scratch, so it's one of those things were you have to measure each piece and hope you got it right and if you don't you got to re weld it but it's fun,” said Chris Hatcher one of the builders.
But if you can’t stay up that late, there will also be an early celebration with live music, dancing, and other performances at 6:30 pm at Pearson Park.
"I feel like everybody should be doing something on new years and what a better way to have an early celebration for those who have young kids and then have a late celebration for the older crowd to attend,” said Inabinet.
If you're in Greenville several local restaurants and bars are having New Year’s specials, like Buffalo Wild Wing's midnight champagne toast.
Or head over to Tie-Breakers to see the North Carolina born band Parlamee perform a special New Year’s show.
So whether it's pickles, a plane, live music, or champagne, there something going on for everyone this new years.
