FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. -- The SBI has been called into help in the investigation into missing funds at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office where upwards of $100,000 is reportedly missing.
The district attorney says the missing money came from an account used to investigate undercover operations.
Sheriff Pat Green resigned on Sunday citing major health and personal issues. District Attorney Sam Currin says there's more to it than that.
"Well I understand he said he resigned for health reasons but I think probably this investigation has something to do with it as well," Currin said.
Green has hired two defense attorneys.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. - The Sheriff of Franklin County has stepped down after just 30 days into his new term. The resignation comes amid an investigation by the SBI into missing money at the Sheriff's Office.
Franklin County Sheriff Pat Green cited health reasons. Green has been with the sheriff's office for 26 years and in his fourth term as Sheriff.
The district attorney for Franklin County called for the investigation into the missing money. No one has been charged with any wrong-doing at this time.
Meanwhile, a closed door meeting was called by the county commissioners. The interim-Sheriff will be the Chief Deputy until county commissioners decide otherwise, which they say they won't do until after the investigation wraps.
This comes as Franklin County GOP members want that to change so the voters can decide on who fills in.
“This will be the 6th position in Franklin County to have someone resign from and have the Board of Commissioners make an appointment to replace them. The purpose of the election is to have the people of the county actually vote to who they want to be represented by,” said Jeremy Neal of the Franklin County GOP.
GOP members in Franklin County think they can get a one-time only bill for this case, but would like to see the law changed across the state.
