MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - An assisted living center in the east will have to pay thousands of dollars in penalties after a deadly Hepatitis outbreak prompted a review last year.
Glen Care Assisted Living Center in Mount Olive must pay a $16,000 penalty. The penalty was officially imposed this week and the center has been notified.
An investigation began last year after eight patients tested positive for Hepatitis B infection. Six of them died.
State health officials found problems like unsafe sharing of blood testing equipment.

Today, a penalty review committee voted to recommend a $16,000 penalty proposal for Glen Care Assisted Living.
The recommendation will be sent to the adult care section chief, who will decide whether to impose the penalty.
