ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. - Searchers found the bodies of two teenagers who went missing during a fishing trip yesterday.
Dive teams found the bodies of 17-year-old Tashun Tillery and 18-year-old Trelvin Daniels in the Roanoke Rapids lake near Thelma Bridge.
The teens were reported missing late Tuesday.
The dive team found their bodies Wednesday around seven.
Friends and others said the teens often visited the fishing spot.
Thelma Bridge sits quietly on a Roanoke Rapids lake and neighbors say it's a hotpot for fishing. And that's exactly what Daniels and Tillery were doing.
Witnesses said the boys had been out fishing all day. “Right there at the end of the bridge right down there where all the rocks are,” said neighbor Candice Taylor.
But after night fell, the boys parents knew something was wrong and placed a call to police around 12 a.m. this morning.
Dispatcher: “He was there this morning?"
"Tillery's father: “Yes sir, he left this morning going fishing. And my other son, he went to work and the car was sitting there and he was fishing, but he wouldn't have been there this time of night sir. He'd never be out later than 9 or 10 o'clock he'd be at home,”
Members of the Halifax County Sheriff's Department went to the bridge where they boys were supposed to be fishing and when they got there, the boy’s car was still on the side of the road. Investigators also found a fishing pole, a bucket, and the keys to the car.
Neighbors, local firefighters, and police all searched for the boys.
"They had blocked off that way coming, they block off that way they were everywhere looking, searching. They had six or seven boats out there searching for them and everything,” said Taylor.
Deputies said a dive team had found both bodies around 7:30 Wednesday morning. The boys had drowned.
Terrence Jones and Chris Silver were friends with the two young men and say they weren't like most teens, “He was a laid back dude, didn't start no trouble, was in church, just a nice dude." Silver grew up with Trevlin and saids he looked up to him, “He just inspired me to look more to the Bible"
For now, the boys said they are just hanging on to the good memories they shared with their friends.
Silver said, "They're not suffering or in pain and to me their in a better place and they'll surrely be missed."
The Halifax County Sheriffs Department is still investigating the drowning, but they have ruled out the possibility of foul play.
