RALEIGH, N.C. – Summer used to mean more teens lining up for jobs but now it looks like a lot teens will be left without a paycheck this summer.
According to a national study, three out of four teens won't have a job this summer. That’s because more adults are taking up the traditional teen jobs. Consumer spending is also down which means fewer retail jobs.
Local budgets are also tighter meaning fewer jobs at places like libraries, parks and pools. So your teen may have to think outside the box this summer.
"They need to get creative; I’ve seen where some kids have started their own business, going around doing birthday parties, dressing up as clowns," Bonnie Helmink, Employment Security
Workers at the employment security commission said there are some jobs out there but the number of applicants far exceeds the openings.
