GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Pitt County Sheriff's Office tells Nine On Your Side that a Rocky Mount Police Officer and another man have been charged for stealing two guns in a 2007 car break-in that happened in Greenville.
Deputies say Rocky Mount Police Officer David Christman along with Marvin Joshua Cobb, a student in Basic Law Enforcement Training, allegedly stole a Benelli Nova 12 Gauge Pump Shotgun and another firearm in that car break-in.
The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says the investigation has been ongoing since 2007. The recent discovery of the shotgun iCoastal Pawn in Greenville led to the men's arrests.
Both men are charged with Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle; Larceny of a Firearm; and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Christman is under a $10,000 unsecured bond while Cobb was placed under a $25,000 secured bond.
“It is always difficult to investigate another officer of the law,” stated Sheriff Neil Elks. “But we are not above the law. In fact, we are held to higher standards.”
